England competition winners triumph in Malta
In
2004, SET Sports Tours, in association with England Netball,
offered a fantastic free tour to one lucky netball team
drawn from thousands of unique competition entries. The
winners were the Lorikeets Netball Team from Deptford, London.
Amanda Coe, of the Lorikeets, reports on their fantastic
prize trip to the Malta Netfest 2005.
"We all had a brilliant time in Malta and we would like to thank everyone at SET Sports Tours for their organisation and hospitality. When we arrived in Malta we didn't know what to expect from the tournament, friends that had previously been had told us that the netball was of very high standard so we did not think we stood much of a chance but we all agreed we would play to the best of our abilities but most importantly enjoy ourselves!
We were most shocked when we won the Maltese Festival of Netball (International Day) at the Kottonera Stadium against all the Maltese teams beating the 'Fuego Champs' in the final (7-3). We also triumphed on the second day of competition (the UK competition day) at the Marsa Sports Ground. The UK final, between us and Chester Netball Club Under 19's, was very nerve racking, it was 7 -7 on the final whistle. We were then told that an extra two minutes would be played to decide the final winners we were overjoyed at winning 2-0. Just proves that the old girls still have it!"
Sue
Garner, coach of the Chester U19's said: "We couldn't
have lost to a nicer team, Lorikeets were fantastic and
the game was played in great spirit. It was a great day
and the weather came out to play also reaching
the 80's!" Sue added: "We would thoroughly recommend
this tour to other schools and clubs and would definitely
suggest they go through SET Sports Tours who were great."
Donna Brown, teacher and tour leader for 49 Robert Clack School girls aged 13-18 agrees: "I'd happily recommend this festival to schools looking for a good netball experience and a great value tour."
Amanda continues: "We went out to celebrate in the evening with a nice meal and danced the night away in the local nightclubs - we even tried pole dancing and salsa dancing!!! Other evenings we visited the ten pin bowling alley and cinemas with more drinking and dancing in the nightclubs!!! There is so much to see and do in Malta. We visited Gozo, the neighbouring island to Malta as well as the many churches including Ta Pinu and also went to Victoria, the Citadel and the Azur window and visited the Folklore Museum in Gharb.
We also explored the capital Valletta and saw the stunning
views of the harbour from Barraca, purchased some Mdina
Glassware and took a horse and cart ride to Silema for some
retail therapy. The final night was spent in the hotel with
all the other netball teams for a night of Karaoke - Lorikeets
got up and sung "Simply the Best" - quite fitting
for us really!!!
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and we would like to thank
SET Sports Tours again for all their hard work and dedication.
We are also thinking of coming back again to defend our
title!"
